Derek Carr - 2014 NFL Draft profile
Derek Carr 6'2" 215 lbs QB/Fresno State- He has the top notch arm strength and ability to anticipate throws, but his inability to step up into pressure and make an accurate throw is troubling. When presented with any bit of pressure, he becomes extremely inaccurate. Very comparable to Jay Cutler.
Draft Projection- mid to late first round
Our Take- late 2nd rd to early 3rd rd
Tom Savage vs Notre Dame
Tom Savage 6'4" 230 lbs QB/Pittsburgh- We'll admit that his frame and arm strength are enticing, he definitely looks the part. But boy is he incredibly inaccurate. His inaccuracy leads to poor ball placement and a bevy of turnovers. Despite his big arm, he lacks the ability to throw the deep ball with any sort of efficiency. We really liked him as a project QB later in the draft, but word is that he's being looked at ahead of Bridgewater. Yikes.
Draft Projection- Late 1st-Mid 2nd rd
Our Take- 5th-6th rd
Stanley Jean-Baptiste vs Penn State (2013)
Stanley Jean-Baptiste 6'3 215 lbs CB/Nebraska- One of my least favorite players in the draft relative to where they are projected to be drafted. In general I think people are too infatuated with his size to see that he has major flaws as a CB. Jean-Baptiste's hips are very stiff and he lacks the speed to turn and run with wide receivers. He also lacks short area quickness to cover smaller, shiftier wide receivers as well. Given his size you would think that he would be more physical than he is. Jean-Baptiste has only been on the defensive side of the ball for a couple of years so he is still really new to the position. I see more of a project than a finished product.
Draft Projection- 2nd rd.
Our Take- 5th-6th rd
Chris Borland - 2014 NFL Draft profile
Chris Borland 5'11" 250 lbs ILB/Wisconsin- Chris Borland was a tremendous college football player. He'll go down as one of the best defensive players in Badgers history. But in my opinion Borland will not have nearly the same success in the NFL. I get it, hes instinctive and has a knack for making plays. But hes short, slow, lacks quickness, and has extremely short arms. I'm just not sure how he can successfully make the leap into the NFL. He was able to succeed against better athletes at the college level, but NFL athletes are on a whole-nother level. I'm sincerely pulling for the guy, but I just don't see anything more than a 2 down linebacker.
Drafft Projection- 2nd rd
Our take- 4th-5th rd.
Deone Bucannon - 2014 NFL Draft profile
Deone Bucannon 6'1" 210 lbs S/Wash St.- Bucannon is similar to Calvin Pryor when it comes to playing the run. When theyre in the box, theyre coming to lay the wood on the ball carrier. Bucannon has all of the measurables that you look for. He's big, fast, and shows some short area quickness. The problem with Bucannon is that he's basically a box safety and nothing more. He lacks discipline and will try to make plays when there are none to be made. He lacks man coverage skills and his ball skills are inconsistent. I like him if youre drafting him to be a box safety, but i don't like him if you're drafting him to play center field too.
Draft Projection- 2nd rd
Our Take- 4th rd
